Good news, and just in time for Valentines day!

Dark chocolate has been shown to have several health benefits.

A recent research study asked participants to eat between 8-20 grams of dark chocolate daily for several weeks.  That is equal to two small squares.  I hope they also got paid for their services!

The researchers noted that many participants showed reduced blood inflammatory markers and improve circulation, both of which improve our overall cardiovascular health!

The research was evaluating dark chocolate, not milk chocolate, and the chocolate was only slightly sweetened.  Milk chocolate has a higher sugar content and may not confer the same health benefits.

In the large intestine, the fiber in chocolate breaks down into antioxidants. These are then converted into chemicals called flavanols.  These flavanols are absorbed in the blood stream where they reduce inflammation and therefore improve circulation.

Enjoy a piece of high quality dark chocolate everyday.  It’s good for you!
