Being involved in a car accident can be a physically and emotionally traumatic experience and treating these injuries can be a challenging process. There are many types of injuries that one can get from an automobile accident, including whiplash, concussion, low back pain, shoulder pain, headaches and many more. Getting the right care is crucial to long-term recovery.

Some individuals immediately feel neck pain, dizziness, blurred vision, inability to raise their arm above their heads, and shoulder pain following a car accident. Others may just feel some mild soreness and stiffness. Either way, one of the first steps should be to see a chiropractor for a proper evaluation, as injuries may still be forming during the initial phase of the trauma, which if left untreated can become chronic injuries.

A 15-year study of individuals with whiplash following a car accident revealed the following:

·      93% reported chronic neck pain longer than 6 months after their injury.

·      58% had associated back pain.

·      Age was a significant predictor of chronic pain (with a 29% increased risk for every 5 years above 37).

Chiropractors are able to assist with the inflammation, irritation, soft-tissue damage and pain following these accidents. They are able to provide high-standard, quality musculoskeletal care through methods such as spinal mobilization or manipulation, manual therapy (massage, cupping, muscle release) and physical therapy exercises. These methods will help reduce pain, improve mobility and support long-term healing.

  1. It was enlightening when you told us that not all injuries present themselves immediately after a car accident since 93% have reported having chronic neck pain more than six months after the accident. My cousin was involved in a car accident a few months ago and came out of it with only a few minor injuries, but recently, he has been feeling a sharp pain around his neck area. I’ll have to take him to a chiropractor soon to get treatment right away.
